We are so excited about the week ahead! After hearing about the i Can Bike program on the radio, my husband, Tony suggested we sign Olivia up to participate. Now, I have to say that there aren’t many things that Olivia can’t do or won’t try, and we usually figure out a way to make modifications so that she can participate in activities that interest her. But, to be honest, I had been trying very hard to accept the fact that independently riding a two-wheeler might not be within our grasp (due in large part to Olivia’s balance and coordination issues). Now I’m not so sure! After Tony’s suggestion, I went straight to their website and was SO impressed with what I saw there! An 80% success rate sounded pretty promising to me. We filled out an application right away, and Olivia is set to start tomorrow at 11:40.
The i Can Bike program is part of the larger non-profit i Can Shine organization, which “provides quality learning opportunities in recreational activities for individuals with disabilities. By creating an environment where each person is empowered to maximize their individual abilities, everyone can shine!” I can’t wait to document our experience here on the Create Possibilities blog. We will be attending 75 minute sessions every day, Monday through Friday this week. I hope you’ll check back in to see our progress!
